The relax mechanism of the sofas

Is it an unnecessary optional?

Let us say: “a sofa with the built-in relax mechanism is the maximum for comfort!”

The sofa is the center of the living area and must be chosen with care. It must respond to a design, to a personal taste and to a precise style in harmony with the furnishings. If we are lucky enough to find our ideal model among those that offer the relax mechanism (often an optional accessory), then we can also count on perfect comfort!

It is the optional par excellence and is very useful for relaxing, resting and for physical well-being!

A sofa with relax mechanism allows the standard comfort of the product to be adapted to the most varied personal needs, thanks to the movement of one or more parts of the element on which we are going to sit. It is thus possible to customize comfort allowing numerous solutions. Let’s analyze the most complete one, with the liftable footrest and the adjustable headrest.

Imagine being able to change your sofa at any time! Raising the legs, lowering the backrest, activating a headrest… with just a few movements and in a few seconds, you can search for countless combinations for your own relaxation!

Let’s see how it works.

It’s very simple. There are 2 types of opening, manual or electric.

With the manual opening, a lever located on the side of the armrest or between the armrest and the seat is activated. By pulling it, the mechanism is “unlocked”, which is activated, raising the footrest and lowering the backrest. You pull the lever … and you’re done!

For the headrest, the upper part of the backrest is simply raised manually to the desired position.

In the case of an electric mechanism, on the other hand, a small button on the side of the armrest or on the seat side is activated, which activates an electric motor. The motor slowly raises the footrest and slightly lowers the backrest allowing you a TV position (or reading if you prefer). Continuing to operate the button, the motor further tilts the backrest to an almost extended position. The electric mechanism therefore allows you to adjust the position of the footrest and backrest with millimeter precision and to stop as you like, at any time, until you get the desired position and optimal personal comfort.

The electrically operated movement might apparently seem more prone to breakage or “complicated” than the manual one, but this is not the case. In fact, I’d say it’s the exact opposite. It is a small motor which drives a large screw. If necessary, it can be removed and replaced in just a few minutes.

The most advanced relax mechanisms, now used by all manufacturing companies, have a “Zero Wall” opening system, i.e. they allow the backrest to be reclined and the seat to be lengthened, without having to move the sofa away from the wall. It is very convenient in case of small spaces.

Since these are elements of the sofa with a particular intended use and undoubtedly intense use, we recommend, in addition to a good mechanism (with warranty and assistance), also very performing seat cushions, i.e. with high quality polyurethane foam.
